Back To Choirs

About our event: We are hosting a local singing event on the 21st of September incorporating ourselves, 2 other adult choirs and one youth singing group. It will be free for any member of the community to attend, and the grand finale will be all voices in attendance, which we anticipate to be around 200, singing a combined song around the theme of peace and unity together to send a massive musical ripple off into the next time zone, and around the world. We are so excited to be part of this global event.

The Lyrebirds Community Choir is an All Abilities group of People who love to Sing and enjoy having a Fabulous time. We are very lucky to rehearse in the comfort of St Lukes Church in Cockatoo, but we are a secular choir; singing songs from many genres and timespans - chosen to suit and reflect the current groups members and their interests. Under the guidance of Dalys (composer/singing and piano teacher) we learn how to use our individual voices as an instrument, and then how to combine our voices as one instrument to express the intention and beauty of the various songs we are singing. We also have a HUGE amount of fun in rehearsals (and then at gigs when we get to Rockstar our Chops!) We sing acapella and also accompanied - we are so lucky to have the most AMAZING accompanist - Steve Kyval who is perhaps one of the most Masterful Musicians of all time. Because of our diversity and interest in new and fun things we are often asked to participate in various musical and artistic events. (Participation in events/gigs is not compulsory but it is encouraged (because it's so much fun, and very bonding as a group)) Dalys arranges the songs to suit the voices in the group and creates music notation and recordings for people to practice. Please note that although it's helpful for you, IT IS NOT EXPECTED THAT YOU CAN READ MUSIC - Dalys teaches all parts during the rehearsals and of course you can practise at home with the recordings.
